There were wild celebrations in church in the community of Macenta when a team from Pioneer Bible Translators flew with MAF Guinea to mark the release of the Bible in Toma for the first time.
David was part of the visiting PBT team who flew on a MAF plane from the capital Conakry and he described the reaction when the congregation received their Bibles.
“The day before the dedication the Toma people sang and paraded around the city centre with a six foot wide banner that displayed Joshua 1:8 in their language,” he said.
“The dedication event on the next day lasted six and a half hours, and everyone sang, rejoiced, and shared testimonies about the power of God's Word.”
PBT is a non-profit missionary organisation, focused on translating the scriptures into languages that do not yet have Bibles. The painstaking work to produce the Toma Bible means that Christians there can read Bible stories in their own heart language.
But the PBT missionaries encountered great difficulty in moving inland, and it could have taken them two days given the deteriorating state of the road. With MAF Guinea they were happy to make the trip to their destination in less than two hours.
Our most recent flight saved us a day of driving and enabled us to join the Toma people as they celebrated the translation of the whole Bible in their language.
"I've had the privilege to fly with MAF in East Africa, West Africa, and Papua New Guinea. Every time the pilots have been top notch, professional, and dedicated to helping us reach our goals,” said David from PBT.
